Turning a leaf into a pattern motif means simplifying it first - reducing the vein structure and edge detail to a clean, repeatable silhouette - before applying the repeat-grid principles from the Grade 7 pattern lesson.
Different leaf shapes (rounded, pointed, lobed) produce noticeably different pattern rhythms once repeated, which is worth testing directly: sketch the same grid with two or three different simplified leaf shapes and compare how the overall pattern feels before settling on one.
