Tissa Ranasinghe (1925-2018) reappears in the Grade 11 syllabus as one of Sri Lanka's most significant modern sculptors, working principally in bronze via lost-wax casting - a technique with roots in the island's own Chola-period bronze tradition centuries earlier.
Because he's one of the few sculptors named directly in the syllabus (most of the unit's other named artists are painters), a question about him is often testing whether you can discuss sculptural qualities specifically - volume, weight, surface, the object in three dimensions - rather than the composition and colour vocabulary used for painting.
