Cubism, developed from around 1907 by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, broke from single-viewpoint perspective: objects and figures are shown from multiple angles simultaneously, fractured into geometric planes and reassembled on the canvas rather than depicted as they'd appear from one fixed position.
Cubism is the direct reference point for George Keyt elsewhere in this syllabus, so the useful preparation is to be able to state specifically what Keyt took from it (fractured, angular planes, flattened form) versus what he departed from (Cubism's usual subject matter, in favour of Sri Lankan and South Asian themes).
