This is a collage lesson, and collage has its own rules separate from drawing: shapes are cut or torn rather than outlined, colour comes from the paper itself rather than being mixed, and composition is built by moving pieces around before anything is glued down.
A flower-and-butterfly subject works well for it because both forms break down into a handful of simple repeated shapes - petals, wing segments - so the exercise is really about arrangement and colour contrast rather than difficult cutting. Try a few layouts before committing to one.
