Grade 11 students should work through the terms in order, because later units assume the vocabulary introduced earlier.
What this term covers
This is the heaviest appreciation term in the whole O/L course - nine units, split between five artists and four Sri Lankan heritage sites. If any term is going to slip, it is this one, so plan it from the first week.

How to work through it
Two units a fortnight clears the term with time to spare. Take one artist and one site each fortnight rather than all the artists first - the two kinds of question need different answers, and alternating keeps both in practice.
The four sites are the ones examiners return to most often, and they are also the ones students describe most vaguely. For each, fix the period, the technique, and two features you could point at. Sigiriya in particular is worth knowing properly rather than in generalities.
Picasso is the only non-Sri Lankan artist here and is usually set as a contrast: what a modern European painter does with the figure compared with what Amarasekara or Abeysinghe does. Prepare that comparison rather than treating him as an isolated topic.
What the exam asks from this term
Written appreciation answers are where marks are won and lost in Grade 11, and this term supplies most of the material for them. Build one revision sheet per unit - what and when, technique, two features, one named work - and you will have the whole strand on nine sheets.
