Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) is generally taught for sfumato - soft, smoke-like transitions between light and shadow with no hard outlines, seen clearly in the Mona Lisa - and for his scientific approach to anatomy and perspective, which he studied through direct dissection rather than convention.
In the Grade 10 Term 2 unit he's grouped with Michelangelo and Raphael specifically so the three can be told apart by one distinguishing feature each - Leonardo by his handling of light and shadow, Michelangelo by sculptural, muscular figures, Raphael by calm, symmetrical composition. Learn that one feature per artist solidly rather than trying to hold everything about all three at once.
